Darcie, 8, Wins ‘Name the New Pathway’ Competition!
8-year-old Darcie Boyland of Puriton Primary School has been chosen as the Winner of the Villages Together Big Local ‘Name the New Pathway’ Competition.
Darcie was one of over 80 children from the Puriton and Woolavington Primary Schools who entered a special competition to name the new multi-use cycle and pedestrian path that’s being developed by Gravity, to create a safe, car-free link, joining the two villages together.
The pathway is part of Gravity’s wider project to create the UK’s first ‘smart campus’ – based on the site of the former Royal Ordnance Factory Bridgwater (ROF 37), which is located between Puriton and Woolavington.
Judges from Gravity, Puriton and Woolavington Parish Councils, and Villages Together Big Local reviewed all the entries and picked Darcie’s ‘Village Link Path’ as the winning name, with the runners-up being ‘Gravity Way’ by Harry Sprague, aged 10 and ‘Woolpur Link’ by Tommy Nation, also 10 – both pupils at Woolavington Primary School.
“Trying to pick a winner was very difficult, as there were so many good entries!” explained Vanda Crow, the Chair of Villages Together, “However, the judges liked the directness of the winning suggestion, and I am delighted that Darcie – and the two runners-up – will receive book tokens kindly donated by Gravity. In addition, all the children who entered the competition will be given ‘certificates of participation’, and, to acknowledge the enthusiasm, imagination, and creativity of all their suggestions, Villages Together are also donating book-sets to the ‘book corners’ of classes in both schools.”
